Law firm Gallagher, Callahan & Gartrell has negotiated a
Master Sub-License Agreement providing a streamlined, flat-rate group
settlement approach for financial institutions challenged by patent
infringement letters from Automated Transactions LLC. Many banks, credit unions and ATM networks have received these letters claiming that
their ATM operations infringe patents held by the company.
The Gallagher firm has organized numerous financial institutions into
groups over the last two years to negotiate sub-license agreements from Automated Transactions, resulting in substantial discounts and
cost efficiencies as an alternative to expensive
litigation. While no financial
institution is happy about paying for a sub-license, it is a solution to a vexing problem and can provide finality. The firm has advised approximately 200 financial institutions in assisting them to make a
decision.
